𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆

You know that that addiction recovery is possible and now you want to help others, maybe because you received help or maybe because you want to be the person you wished had been there for you.

Lived experience support workers use their lived experience of addiction and recovery to support and inspire hope and recovery in others, and ultimately to positively influence client outcomes. Their lived experience helps them to build connections and rapport with people and inspires hope and confidence.

Mission Australia are excited to launch RESET - an early intervention and prevention program for young people aged twelve to twenty-four, to increase access to AOD services so that there is a reduced need for residential rehabilitation.

The Lived Experience Support Worker focuses on supporting young people throughout recovery in relation to substance use concerns, providing both group programs and individual support.

Outreach work will be key, allowing you to reach those in the community who may not be able to access services easily. The use of a pool car for travel during work hours is a great benefit, ensuring that you can effectively engage with young people in various locations.

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗼:

- Undertake initial contact with clients
- Engage participants to develop honest and trusting relationships whilst adhering to boundaries of care practices
- Learn about each clients' interests and their relationships with their family and friends in order to create a tailored approach
to build these connections
- Utilise your lived expertise skills to support clients with their recovery journey. Help connect clients to meaningful activities
and networks to keep them engaged
- Facilitate small peer led support groups and support the provision of structured Alcohol and other Drug Group Programs
and Workshops in local schools and community events
- Liaison with the team and stakeholders to provide appropriate supports for clients
- Ensure documentation is completed and updated in line with Mission Australia protocols
- Participate in special projects as agreed with the Program Manager and the team
- Complete various administrative duties for the efficient running of the service including statistics, reports, letters, plans and
data entry in relevant client management system,

𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀:

- Certificate IV in Peer Work or Certificate III in Individual Support preferred
- Personal lived experience of AOD addiction and recovery and professional experience working from this expertise
- Experience working with young people
- Demonstrated ability to undertake basic functional day to day support of clients from a lived experience framework.
- Able to model recovery principles within their own life.
- Knowledge of community activities, programs, and networks in the local community
- Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, strong administrative skills and proficient use of technology
(database, mobile devices)
- Demonstrated professional approach to the role including maintaining professional boundaries
- Current NSW driver's license

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
